Our extraordinary new still house is not only a functional space for production but can easily lend itself to entertaining guests and our tours can offer a real insight into the workings of an operational distillery.
We appreciate the importance of terroir. We have worked this land through generations of our families. The Ards peninsula is our home. We know its unique topography, its rich soil, its saline air and its temperate climate. This inherent understanding, the sensitivity to place, empowers us to produce spirit unique in character and true of place.
Our barley is grown in the fields surrounding the distillery and we have revived the age old tradition of distillery floor malting. We truly are producing spirit from field to glass.
Impressive state of the art equipment is newly housed within a superb glass structure which showcases the craftsmanship of the equipment but also opens up the picturesque views of the surrounding countryside. Our still house has been specially designed to allow us to produce the purist spirit imaginable.
Creating exceptional whiskey takes time and we give ours as much time as it needs by trickle distilling every drop.
Echlinville Estate was founded by the Echlin family in the 1730’s, a notoriously influential and powerful family in Ireland at this time. Most notably Bishop Robert Echlin who was the guardian and implementer of the new reformed church in the counties of Down & Connor. Robert settled in the Ards peninsula around 1612 becoming the founder of the Echlin’s in the area.
It was his great grandson Charles Echlin who bought the two story property in Rubane in the early 1700s and renamed it the Echlinville House & Estate. It may have changed down through the years but the majestic house still provides the perfect backdrop to exciting new times for the Echlinville Distillery.

Distillery grows it's own barley
Distillery does own floor malting. Traditional process of fermenting barley on heated floor to turn into "malted" barley. Most distilleries today actually purchase their malted barley.
